The Locke Extension connects Chrome, Edge, and Firefox to the Locke desktop app. When you submit a prompt to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any of 27 protected AI surfaces, the request is held in your browser, scanned on your device, and only then allowed to leave — sent, redacted, or blocked.

How the Locke Extension treats your data
Holds, never leaks
When you submit a prompt on a protected AI site, the extension holds the outgoing request inside the page — the exact bytes, not a copy — until Locke has screened it.
Scanned on your device
The held request goes to the Locke desktop app on your machine over the browser's native-messaging channel. Detection and redaction run locally. No cloud, no third party.
Fails closed
If Locke can't return a verdict — the app is closed, the channel breaks, anything — the request is blocked rather than sent unscreened. An outage costs availability, never confidentiality.
Minimal permissions
Three permissions (storage, alarms, native messaging) plus loopback access to the Locke app. No <all_urls>, no page scraping, no analytics, no accounts, zero third-party dependencies.

Add the Locke Extension from your browser's store and install the Locke desktop app. The extension announces itself to the app automatically — no pairing codes, no sign-in inside the extension.

Type into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other protected AI site. The moment you submit, the extension holds the outgoing request inside the page before it leaves your browser.

Locke screens the exact bytes on-device
The held request is handed to the Locke desktop app on your machine, which scans it locally for sensitive data — names, credentials, identifiers, anything your policy covers.

Which browsers does the Locke Extension support?
Google Chrome (120+), Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox (128+). Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and other Chromium-based browsers install it from the Chrome Web Store. Safari is not supported in the initial release.
Do I need the Locke desktop app for the extension to work?
Yes. The extension doesn't scan anything itself — it hands each held request to the Locke desktop app on your machine, which runs detection and redaction locally. If the app isn't running, protected requests are held and blocked rather than sent unscreened.
What data does the Locke Extension collect?
None. There are no analytics, no accounts, no telemetry servers, and no third-party code. The only network endpoint the extension can reach is the Locke app on your own machine (127.0.0.1), which it pings with just its browser name and version so the app can show connection status.

Does the Locke Extension slow down my browsing?
Only requests carrying your prompts to protected AI sites are held for the on-device verdict — typically imperceptible next to the AI service's own response time. Every other site and request is untouched; the extension doesn't run there at all.
