Every page sits inside this frame.
1The wordmark. Top left, always. Cosmetic — it isn't a button.
2Pause protection. The one control that's on every page, because it's the one you might need in a hurry.
3The sidebar. Your four main pages: Dashboard, Controls, Reports, Sandbox. Teams admins get a fifth, My Team, under an Admin heading.
4Settings and Support sit at the bottom of the sidebar, separated from the main pages because you visit them rarely.
5Your name and plan. The bottom-left corner always tells you which plan you're on — Free, Teams Member, or Teams Admin. Click the avatar to manage your account or sign out.
Pause protection
Available toAll plans
Sometimes you need Locke out of the way — you're testing something, or a masked value is getting in the way of a specific task. The pause button in the titlebar stops detection temporarily and, crucially, turns itself back on.

Pause protection
Pause events are audit-logged for compliance.
Three durations, and no fourth option that means 'off forever'.
Pause durations
Option
Comes back
Pause for 15 minutes
Automatically, after 15 minutes.
Pause for 1 hour
Automatically, after an hour.
Pause until tomorrow
Automatically, at midnight.
While paused, the button shows a live countdown and the Dashboard status card turns amber. Resume early with Resume protection from the same menu.
The corner dot
Available toAll plans
Locke's actual working life happens outside the app window. A small dot sits in the corner of your screen, above other windows, and changes colour to tell you what's happening — the same idea as a spell-checker's indicator.
What the corner dot means
Dot
Meaning
Grey
Idle. Locke is running, nothing to report.
Green check
Ready, or just masked something successfully.
Amber
Sensitive data detected in what you're about to send.
Red cross
A substitution failed. Worth opening the app.
Click the dot to open a small panel with your recent activity and a quick pause control, without switching to the full app. You can move the dot between corners in Settings › App behavior & display › Overlay position.
What you'll see
The Locke status dot floating in the bottom-right corner of a desktop, showing a green check mark.
Locke follows your system theme by default; override it in Settings › App behavior & display › Theme. The window buttons at the top right minimise, maximise, and close as usual — and closing the window doesn't stop protection. Locke keeps running in the background, dot and all. To actually stop it, use the pause menu.
